Sublimation Transfer Printing & Direct to Textile Printing, Which One Your Prefer?

There are many methods can help you print on the fabrics and textiles, but the most common methods are sublimation transfer printing and direct to textile printing. But what are the differences between them?
sublimation printing

For sublimation printing, you should print the images to the sublimation transfer paper with an inkjet printer, then under heat and pressure in a heat press or calender, release the printed image, so you can transfer the images from paper to fabric.

Now more and more dye-sublimation printing is direct-to-fabric printing. It dont need the sublimation paper, the printed fabrics need to be run through a calendar — built into the printer or as a separate unit — for the sublimation process to fix the dye to the fabric. Direct-to-fabric dye-sublimation also requires pretreated polyester fabrics.
applications of direct to textile printing

Other differences between transfer printing and direct-to-fabric include the property of the image. In direct to textile printing, the ink can penetrate further into the fabric than those used in transfer printing. So you will find that the result of direct to textile printing can be
applications of sublimation printing more muted colors and softer text. In direct-to-fabric, there is also greater show-through on the reverse side of the fabric, which is why the top application for direct-to-fabric — at least right now — is flags.

Usually the direct to textile printer is more expensive than the normal sublimation printer. So when you dont know which one you should choose, look at your budget, and try to make a true decision.
