The Differences Between DTG Printer and Heat Press Machine in T-shirt Printing

1. The definition

DTG printer refers to the whole set of digital full-color printing device for individual or small batch printing on garments. It can print on t-shirts in any colors. And the cost of per t-shirt will not increase no matter how many you want to print.

Heat press machine is one essential machine of sublimation printing. It can transfer the images from paper to fabrics like cotton, polyester and so on. It is also suitable for screen printing. It is economical and practical.

2. The working principles

DTG printer sprays the ink onto the clothes directly. It is connected to the computer via USB. After editing the picture size and position through the dedicated RIP software, you can start to print directly. It is easy to operate,   Compared with the traditional craftsmanship, the finished t-shirts have many advantages : feels good when tough, the color is bright, the breathability is good, the long-time wash does not fade, the skin does not peel, and it does not crack.

The heat press machine transfers the pattern from the transfer paper to the clothes through high temperature. There are three main concepts: pressure, temperature, and time. It’s working mechanism is to heat the heat-generating plate, and transfer the images from transfer paper to the with a certain pressure, specific temperature and time.

  3. The fabric of the t-shirts

DTG printing are mainly suitable for cotton (at least more than 60% cotton) and leather. But for heat transfer printing, it usually has a better performance in polyester printing.

No matter what kind of printing methods you prefer, each of them has their own advantages. As long as you pay attention to the details, you can do both of them well.
